My Story
As a teen, I was obsessed with pop culture and becoming a TV producer. After my dad’s untimely passing in college, I focused on my career, working at Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video, ABC, Lifetime, MTV, and finally, landing my dream job at VH1.
As a veteran executive producer, I pioneered relationship programming, overseeing reality hits such as the Love & Hip Hop franchise, The Salt-N-Pepa Show, and “Why Am I Still Single?” For years, I created shows revolving around others finding their partners, but never me. After a lonely Thanksgiving in Tokyo filming a Mariah Carey special, I realized I could not escape myself. At that moment, I decided to change, step by messy step, until I became the star of my own never-too-late love story at 48.
The younger me never would have thought I’d share my struggles publicly. That’s exactly what I did with my New York Times essay The Wedding I Thought Would Never Happen, which went viral. My story was also featured on Today with Hoda & Jenna. In addition to The New York Times, I’ve written for Salon, the New York Post, and the New York Press. I also documented my mother’s story of fleeing Belgium to Morocco during the Holocaust.
Today, I am a writer, currently working on my debut memoir. I live the life I always wanted with my husband, George, and daughter, Colette. (and TBD dog, if she gets her way.)
